Whoever holds the signing key holds the app
An update only ships signed with the account certificate. If that certificate lives on the agency laptop rather than in an account of yours, changing supplier stops being your decision and becomes a negotiation. It takes five minutes to check and almost nobody checks in time.
Store accounts, in your details
App Store Connect and Google Play are registered with your British company tax documentation, not ours; we come in on delegated access. It is slower at the start and it saves the whole problem later, once the listing, the reviews and the users are worth something.
So another team can build it without ringing us
We hand the project over with environment instructions, pinned versions and automated releases, and we test it on a clean machine. If a London team takes it on two years from now, they have to be able to ship a version on day one. That is the bar and it can be checked.
An app with no maintenance plan expires by itself
Every year brings a new version of iOS and another of Android, and each one breaks something even if you change nothing. We say it before the build is signed off because it changes the budget: the cost is not building it, it is keeping it alive. Anyone leaving it out of the proposal is hiding it.
