Multiplying by a hundred is a shortcut, not a rule
Storing money as whole units of the smallest denomination is good practice; multiplying by a hundred to get there is not. With the dinar you multiply by a thousand. A basket that takes the short route drops the last digit and says nothing: what is left still looks like a price.
The payment gateway wants each currency's minor unit
Almost every gateway takes the amount as a whole number in the smallest unit. Twelve and a half dinars are twelve thousand five hundred fils, not one thousand two hundred and fifty. Sending the short figure raises no error: the charge goes through at a tenth of the amount.
A form that only accepts two decimals rejects a valid figure
Amount fields usually carry a one-hundredth step inherited from the template. With three decimals the browser blocks a correct number and whoever typed it has no idea why. Validation and visible decimals come from the selected currency, not from a constant.
The column's scale decides what can be stored
A column defined with two decimals rounds on write and what was left over never comes back. The framework makes no difference: with Laravel or with Next.js the problem sits in the schema. We define it with the scale the currency asks for and its currency code alongside.
