We don't start with the homepage because it is the first thing people see. We start with the piece that saves manual work or unblocks a sale: the form that arrives by email today and somebody retypes by hand. It looks worse in a demo and shows up sooner in the accounts.
Value gets billed from month one
A phase in production is already returning something while the next one is being built. And what needs correcting gets corrected early: a wrong assumption that surfaces in month two costs a fraction of what it costs to find in month six, with half a dozen screens built on top of it.
A half-built website is a half-built website
There are projects where this does not work, and it is worth saying so before selling phases. A brand launch, a shop opening with a campaign behind it or an institutional site presented as a whole need to be finished on day one. Phasing there only spreads the risk over more months.
Every phase ends at a real exit point
The repository and the infrastructure are in your company's name, and each phase closes deployed and documented. If you decide not to continue, you are not left with a stalled building site that only we know how to resume. That is the condition that makes selling phases honest: the next one has to be earned.
