How we work in Rome
The URL inventory comes before the first sketch
Before deciding what the new site will look like we pull the full list of what the old one has: every URL that gets traffic, every one with links pointing at it from outside and every one the search engine still shows. Ten years of a site produce far more pages than anyone remembers publishing, and that list is what governs everything after it.
Information architecture is decided before the design
Which sections exist, what hangs off what and what each URL is called are architecture decisions, not aesthetic ones. They are made first and in writing, because changing them once the design is approved means redoing templates, menus and internal links. It is the least visible part of the project and the most expensive one to improvise.
If you prefer the new structure and it costs traffic, the call is yours
It happens often: the proposal reorganises the sections because it looks cleaner, and those pages have spent years receiving visitors at the address they have. We are not going to pretend it makes no difference. We put on the table which URLs move, how much traffic and how many links sit behind each one, and you decide with that number in front of you. Sometimes it is worth doing anyway.
The repository and the redirect map are yours
Laravel, React or Next.js depending on what the project needs, with the code in your company's name from the first commit. The redirect map travels with it, written into the repository and not kept in someone's head: it is what makes the new site keep what the old one took years to gather.
