How we work in Vienna
The end-of-support date is written into the quote
Every version of Laravel, PHP and Node has a date after which it stops receiving security patches. It is public and you can look it up today. We put it in the proposal, next to the price, so you know when the next round of updates falls due instead of receiving it as a surprise invoice.
Every dependency is a debt in someone else's name
A third-party package saves you a week today and ties you to someone else still maintaining it tomorrow. Some projects drag along fifty libraries of which five are used. We would rather write thirty lines of our own than add a dependency that solves little: each one is an author who can walk away without notice.
Nothing hand-patched on the inside
Editing a library's code so it does what you need works for one afternoon and blocks updates for years: the next version wipes the patch out. When something does not fit, we extend it from the outside and document it. It costs more up front and it is why updating stays a matter of hours.
The expensive part is not building it, it is touching it two years later
A project with no tests and no documented decisions is easy to change in the first month, while everyone still remembers why it was built that way. Two years on, changing a form means reading the whole thing and crossing your fingers. We leave tests around what must not break and a record of the reasoning behind each decision.
