How we work in Rome
First, which pages are paying the bills
Before offering an opinion on a redesign you need to know which parts of the site bring visits, enquiries and sales. There are usually few of them and they rarely match the ones people inside the company like most. It comes from crossing analytics, what the search engine shows and your own record of where customers arrive from.
A plan that also says what is not to be touched
The deliverable includes a short list of what stays as it is: URLs, templates and content that do not move however much the design changes around them. It is the part that prevents the last-minute arguments, when somebody proposes reordering the whole menu two days before going live.
Redesigning and restructuring are two projects
They can be done at once and often are, but then, if visits fall, there will be no way of telling whether it was the design or the URLs. Splitting them into two phases costs a little more calendar time and in exchange lets you understand what happened. We propose it that way and you decide.
What we are not: your advisers in Italy
We do talk about the common European framework, because it governs data protection and e-commerce on both sides and it is the same one. On anything specifically Italian we offer no opinion, least of all in writing: that is for your own advisers. We say it in the first meeting rather than letting it be assumed.
