An MVP exists to find out whether anybody wants this, and its success may consist of throwing it away. A phase one is the base the following ones are built on. Building an MVP to foundation quality costs too much; building foundations in MVP haste gets paid for in phase three.
The question is written before the code
We write down first what has to be found out and which number answers it, before a line of code is touched. Without that, validating means showing it to people who say they like it, which is exactly the same as not validating. With it, the answer arrives even when it is the one you did not want.
If it works, the next step does not start from scratch
Even though an MVP can be thrown away, we try to make the disposable part the interface and not the data model. Laravel and React, with the hard-to-reverse decisions flagged from the start. The expensive part is never a screen: it is a database designed for a hypothesis that no longer holds.
Some products will not take a minimum version
If you sell to a large company that will send you a security questionnaire, or if the product replaces something people use daily, a cut-down version cannot be shown without burning the chance. There the MVP is tested inwards, with trusted users, and it is not called a launch.
