How we work in Jeddah
Storing it right is free; fixing it later is not
Choosing the correct column type and a conversion library on day one does not add a euro to the budget. Changing it once there are users means migrating what is stored, reviewing every report already issued and explaining why a date somebody saw has moved.
The second view can wait, the column cannot
A minimum product can ship showing one calendar and nobody will miss the other while it is still being validated. What it cannot ship with is the already-converted label being written, because that stops being a pending screen and becomes a migration with data inside.
Test data with dates spread out finds the fault sooner
Filling the prototype with records scattered across a year, rather than five rows from this week, brings the mismatch to light before anyone else sees it. Generating that data takes an hour and saves the conversation in month two.
A three-month pilot never crosses the year change
If validation lasts a quarter, the mismatch between years will not appear during the pilot and will surface just when there are paying customers. It is worth forcing it with the clock moved forward before closing the version, rather than meeting it in production.
