How we work in Edinburgh
You pay for the click and lose the conversion on an unlabelled field
A label that is only grey text inside the box disappears the moment someone starts typing. An error marked out in red alone is invisible to anyone who cannot tell that red apart. A form that cannot be reached with a keyboard shuts out anyone who does not use a mouse. All three failures are paid for at the price of the click.
Button contrast is not a matter of taste
A button whose text does not reach 4.5:1 against its background reads badly on a phone in full sun, which is where a fair share of ads get seen. The advantage of having a number is that the conversation ends: you measure the pair of colours, it passes or it does not, and it is adjusted without anyone winning an argument about aesthetics.
The ad video gets watched with the sound off
Autoplay on social platforms starts silent. Burnt-in captions are both an accessibility requirement and a performance decision: without them the message depends on audio plenty of people will never switch on. They are built with the piece, not bolted on at the last minute.
Email has to be readable too
An email campaign built as a single image is unreadable to a screen reader and leaves a blank space in any mail client that does not load images by default. Real text, headings with a hierarchy, and alt on anything illustrative: one fix solves both problems at once.
