An amount with no currency is not an amount
A column with a bare twelve hundred in it says nothing two years from now. The currency code goes next to the figure, always, even if you only use one today. Adding it with an empty table takes five minutes; with half a million rows it costs a project.
The exchange rate is stored with the transaction
If a report recalculates the conversion every time it is opened, last year's figures change on their own. The rate applied, with its date and its source, is stored with the entry and never touched again. That is the difference between a record and an estimate.
Cents and öre, always as whole numbers
Amounts are stored in the smallest unit and as whole numbers, never as floating-point decimals. A lost rounding is invisible in one row; it shows when you add up a hundred thousand. It is five lines at the start and a full migration if the decision comes late.
An agent that quotes prices has to know which currency
If you automate replies to sales enquiries, the agent ends up saying a figure. It has to read it from your catalogue along with its currency, not infer it. We built something like that for TODO PLAGAS with voice and WhatsApp: it answers with the company's data, not with what it imagines.
