Charging for real validates more than asking
A survey tells you what people find reasonable; a payment tells you what they are willing to pay. In a product selling on both sides of the euro, a first version that really charges, even ten people, settles the argument better than three months of meetings.
One currency at the start, but with its code stored
Supporting several currencies can be postponed at no cost: it is interface and rules. What cannot be postponed is writing the currency next to every amount in the database. It is the one MVP cut that gets paid for with a migration, and that is why we do not make it.
A price test and a move in the rate look alike
If you test two amounts while the rate is moving, you will not know which of the two explains the result. During the test the displayed figure is fixed and the day's rate is recorded. It is an afternoon of care that avoids reaching the opposite conclusion.
The payment provider is chosen before the checkout is written
Each provider settles in certain currencies and supports certain payment methods, and they are not the same in every country. Changing it later touches payments, active subscriptions and reconciliation. It is one of the few MVP decisions worth taking slowly.
