How we work in Houston
The conversion that gets applied twice
One system converts on the way out and the other converts again on the way in. The value arrives multiplied by the factor twice and no program complains, because a number is still a valid number. Who converts goes into the integration contract; it is never assumed.
A step that gets retried can't convert
If the conversion lives inside a task that retries on failure, the second attempt multiplies what was already multiplied. Automated flows retry on their own, so conversion belongs to reading the value and never to writing it.
The column that brings in “5,5” and “5.5” at once
When files arrive from several sources, the same column ends up holding commas, periods and thousands separators. “1.250” could be one thousand two hundred and fifty, or one point two five. That is where the flow stops guessing: it holds the row, flags it, and reports how many it stopped and where.
A language model returns a number, not a check
Ask a model to pull measurements out of a delivery note and it will give you the figure along with whichever unit was nearest in the document, which isn't always the right one. Before anything is stored, the value goes through a plausible range and whatever falls outside waits for a human.
