MVP Development en Lisbon
How we work in Lisbon
Preparing for traffic that does not exist is money thrown away
Sharding the database, building three layers of cache and deploying across regions before the first user costs weeks of work and complicates every change afterwards. Almost no product dies of performance in its first year: they die because not enough people care. That is the test to pass first.
Three decisions that cost ten times more later
Some things are cheap to change later, such as the size of the machine, and some are not: how the information is modelled, where session state lives, and whether heavy work already goes through a queue even if it sits empty today. Those three are done properly from the start because at the beginning they cost almost nothing and redoing them later is brutal.
The only real spike an MVP gets lasts two hours
It is launch day, or the morning somebody mentions you somewhere. It is covered with the simplest thing available: a static front page served from a content delivery network, a form that only stores an email address, and spare capacity paid for over a couple of days. It costs little and it prevents the one outage that would genuinely matter at that stage.
Measure from day one, even if it seems unnecessary
Recording response times and errors while the product is small costs almost nothing, and it is what later tells you whether something is slow because it always was or because it changed last week. Without that history, the first serious performance problem starts with two days of guesswork. With Laravel and React we leave it in place by default.
